St George’s Singalong

What better way for Londoners to celebrate England’s Patron Saint than with a right Cockney, St George’s Day singalong?

Indeed, it was entertainer, Cockney Phil, who led the session with a catalogue of old favourites to get toes tapping and voices raised as words and tunes came flooding back.

There were enthusiastic renditions of ‘My Old Man’s a Dustman’, ‘Maybe It’s Because I’m a Londoner’, ‘I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts’, hits from Chas & Dave, and, of course, the ‘Okey Cokey’ with several residents and staff doing the actions to the best of their ability.

The journey down Memory Lane certainly lifted the spirits on what was a rainy day outside. Music is a wonderful therapy and songs from bygone days are a great way of re-awakening memories and prompting people to share their recollections of times gone by.
