Nursing Associates Make the Grade

Congratulations to staff members, Carmen and Maria, who have just graduated with Nursing Foundation degrees.

The pair have worked at The Chiswick for several years and shown a real commitment to our residents and to progressing in their careers. We were therefore delighted to offer them the chance to enrol on a Nursing Apprenticeship Scheme, funded by The Nursing Centre. This enabled them to study for a degree level qualification with The West London University whilst enhancing their practical experience with us and continue to earn a salary.

Completing the two-year, flexible learning programme, Carmen and Maria are now fully qualified Level 5 nursing associates. This is a role which sits between health/care worker and registered nurse. As associates, they are key members of a multi-disciplinary team in the health/social care sector or they can use this as a stepping stone to become State Registered Nurses.

CNC Centre Director, Steve Winter, joined colleagues in congratulating the two women on their achievement: “I am delighted for Carmen and Maria. Since they joined us, they have worked hard, become respected team members and seized the opportunity to improve their skills set by taking this major step up on the career ladder.

“No-one who listens to or reads the news can be unaware of the real shortage of qualified staff that we currently face in the health and social care sectors. It is one of the reasons that we, wholeheartedly, support the apprenticeship programme. We know how difficult it is for people to choose between study or a paid job but this route really does offer a genuine alternative. Our two new graduates are valued members of our team. I hope they will enjoy their new roles and continue their careers with us, either as nursing associates or as State Registered Nurses if they choose that progression route.”
