Music Makes Us Happy

They say that music is good for the soul and it certainly left a lot of residents and staff feeling very upbeat after two recent musical events.

‘Making Waves’ who regularly put on a range of creative activities for us, staged a singing session with a difference. They brought with them some tambourines which lit up when waved around. Not only did the audience enjoy themselves giving full voice to a series of favourite songs, they got a bit of exercise too brandishing the tambourines above their heads and shaking them in time with the music.

We were also visited by our local ‘Rock Choir’. This is part of a national organisation that encourages people to come together with others in their neighbourhood and sing for the love of music. There are no auditions and no experience needed – just an enthusiasm for singing pop and contemporary music. Choirs rehearse and perform at various community venues. More than 30,000 people have already joined and as a result, there are rehearsals, performances and events in 400 towns, villages and neighbourhoods around the UK.

As you can see from our photos, everyone joined in as the choir sang a range of popular hits spanning the decades. We are not sure who enjoyed it more, residents, staff or Rock Choir as their post-performance comments reveal: ‘We had such a gorgeous time yesterday performing to and singing with the staff and residents of The Chiswick Nursing Centre! It’s all part of our tour of local care homes this term. Thank you for all the choir members who joined us.’
