Healthier Lifestyles Through Physical Fitness

Keeping physically active for as long as possible will contribute enormously to our overall wellbeing, reducing our risk of illness and disease, and sustaining good mental health.

These are some of the messages behind National Fitness Day 2022 which takes place on Wednesday 21st September. The campaign will celebrate how a huge range of activities can be enjoyed by participants of all ages and backgrounds.

Age is no barrier to fitness, as we can testify here at The Chiswick. We know the important role that keeping active can play. There are so many benefits, joint mobility, balance, improved heart rate, lowering of blood pressure, release of endorphins and other chemicals to make us feel good, are just some of them. We run a whole programme of gentle, tailored activities – chair based yoga, Bollywood yoga, stretching to music, walks and physiotherapy designed to maintain the health of our residents.

If you have become lax about your own exercise, National Fitness Day is a good excuse to do something about it. There are literally dozens of different activities that you can take part in. Find a local class or event near you – there are lots of taster sessions or beginner’s classes to ease you in gently.
