If you hear the strains of Bollywood music echoing around The Chiswick, it will be down to some of our residents enjoying their chair/Bolly yoga.
Chair yoga offers many of the benefits of conventional yoga but adapts some of the moves to make them suitable for those with limited mobility or who cannot stand for extended periods, or have difficulty transitioning from sitting to standing. Many of the basic body yoga movements are the same, so sitters can still do versions of twists, hip stretches, forward bends and mild backbends. This ensures they can reap all the advantages that yoga brings including improved muscle tone and better breathing.
So where does Bollywood fit in? Indian dance music provides the background to uplift and inspire our yoga audience together with a rhythmic beat they can exercise along to.
